The School Nurse is responsible for promoting and maintaining the health, safety, and well-being of students and staff. The role involves providing first aid and basic healthcare services, managing student health records, responding to medical emergencies, and supporting health education initiatives within the school.
Key Responsibilities
Student Health Care
- Provide first aid and basic medical care to students and staff during school hours.
- Assess and manage minor illnesses and injuries and determine when further medical attention is required.
- Monitor students with chronic health conditions and ensure appropriate care plans are followed.
- Administer medications as authorized by parents and in accordance with school policies.
Health Records Management
- Maintain accurate and confidential student medical records.
- Ensure health information, immunization records, and emergency contact details are updated regularly.
- Document all visits to the health office, treatments provided, and follow-up actions taken.
Emergency Response
- Respond promptly to medical emergencies occurring on campus.
- Coordinate with parents, emergency services, and healthcare providers when necessary.
- Ensure emergency medical equipment and first aid supplies are adequately stocked and maintained.
- Participate in the development and implementation of school emergency response procedures.
Health and Safety
- Monitor and promote compliance with school health and safety policies.
- Conduct regular inspections of first aid kits and medical supplies across the campus.
- Assist in identifying and managing potential health risks within the school environment.
- Support infection prevention and control measures during outbreaks of communicable diseases.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Prepare health-related reports as required by school administration.
- Maintain inventory records of medicines, medical equipment, and first aid supplies.
- Ensure compliance with local health regulations and school policies.
Qualifications
- Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from a recognized institution.
- Valid Nursing Registration/License.
- Certification in First Aid, CPR, and Basic Life Support (BLS) is preferred.
Experience
- Minimum 2 years of nursing experience, preferably in a school, pediatric, clinic, or healthcare setting.
